Rebuilding with Open Data

Post-hurricane Katrina, the City of New Orleans began a re-building effort that has transformed every aspect of the city. Via a new Open Data portal, information about blighted properties, demolitions, and inspections can now all be easily accessed by the residents of New Orleans. The newly granted access to city data gives constituents a front-row seat to the daily progress of recovery efforts within the City of New Orleans.

“We moved from a single proprietary spreadsheet on one person’s computer to a system that allows the public to see and visualize the data”
Justin Kray, Technology & Design Lead, New Orleans
