Apps.gov Provides Streamlined Enrollment Experience, so Government Agencies can Reduce Data Delivery Costs

SEATTLE, September 22, 2009 – Socrata, Inc. – Making Data Social™ – today announced that its social data discovery solutions have been selected for the General Service Administration’s (GSA) Cloud Computing storefront called Apps.gov. The GSA’s Cloud Computing Storefront is an online site which will enable federal government organizations to easily purchase and enroll in cloud computing applications for which the GSA has negotiated terms of service.

Socrata’s cloud-based solutions allow government agencies to make government data publicly available to the masses and to deliver on transparency and civic engagement promises. With Socrata everyday citizens can access data through an easy to use interface, much like media players are used for audio and video content. Citizens can sort, filter and search datasets directly within a Web site, comment on and discuss data, and easily propagate datasets and discoveries across social networks, like Twitter or Facebook.
